NURSING HOME BRAE, PITLOCHRY Exterior

The challenge

Nursing Home Brae is a small residential development of ten retirement properties, built on the site of an old cottage hospital. Sustainability was a core consideration for this development; to create warm, efficient, easy to maintain homes whilst helping give retired residents peace of mind over the cost of utility bills. As well as sustainable homes, the brief was also to create beautiful homes.

Our solution

We used closed-panel timber kits, procured through Scotframe for this project. This allowed us to achieve tremendous accuracy from construction in the factory setting, giving us high levels of sustainability and satisfaction from residents. Heating and hot water are generated using an individual Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) per dwelling. Combining the ASHP with the factory manufactured building, increased levels of insulation, air tightness and high quality doors, screens and windows, these are very efficient homes. The timber cladding is kiln dried Larch which is pressure injected with stain, meaning maintenance is minimal. Acrylic Sto-render was also applied to the elevations and clay roof tiles we used in a drive to limit the use of cementitious products throughout.
